Toile de Jouy Inspired Sneakers
Opening Ceremony is genius when it comes to collaborations, teaming up with artists, designers and celebrities alike.
Their recent collaboration made us immediately reevaluate our sneaker collection. OP teamed up with Keds and artist Richard Saja to create one-of-a-kind, French, toile-inspired kicks.
Anyone familiar with ‘Toile de Jouy’ – a print that originated in France in the 1700s – would most likely associate it with the sweet, girly Marie Antoinette-style décor of grandma’s dining room. The artist’s reinterpretations subvert the expected daintiness by inserting figures reminiscent of the artist’s childhood doodles: superheroes, monsters, clowns and mutants. The end result recalls something else along the lines of fabric graffiti, or comic strip tapestry.
